Steve’s Virtual Corner

By Steve
The first quarter of 2007 has had some exciting developments so far on the virtualization front.   VMware announced the debut of VMware Lab Manager which saves software developers incredible amounts of time in addition to slashing hardware environments (see Larry Ellison’s Lab Manager article in this newsletter).   This product is a must for software developers.   At our February luncheon on Lab Manager at Faz restaurant in Sunnyvale, we had so many unregistered people show up that we had to add two more big tables.   VMware Converter is now shipping and it’s in a whole new league from P2V. PHD’s esXpress is setting a new standard for backup and replication of virtual machines.   And Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 ships on March 8th complete with Desktop Broker enabling seamless connection of users to desktops running on VMware ESX servers.

At AccessFlow, 2007 has started off well also.   We’ve hired some great new folk including Jason Ewing in purchasing, Bobby Seronio in engineering, Randy Russell in sales and Jason Pehur as data center manager.   We also finally convinced Ed Gruss to join us full time as a senior engineer.   We’re adding both IBM iSeries and NetApp support to our Virtual Infrastructure Recovery Service® (hosted DR), and are also offering an inexpensive VOIP recovery option to enable continued phone service operation in the event of a disaster.

Our first DR focused seminar is on Wednesday the 28th in Pleasanton.   www.accessflow.com/pdf/Virtually Painless DR.pdf.   Among other speakers, Rich Lewis from The Mechanics Bank will be presenting the bank’s virtual DR solution.   At last count, we had 126 sign-ups.   We hope you can make it.   We’re giving a free “Fight Global Warming” T–shirt to every attendee.

The latest installment of VirtualMan, VirtualMan Powers Down, is now available both on our Web site www.accessflow.com/pdf/vmpowersdown.pdf and in print.   For those of you who remember the old Charles Atlas comic book advertisements, check out our parody on the inside back cover.   You’ll get a chuckle or two out of it.

As always, thank you so much for your business.   We look forward to continue working to help you enjoy the vast rewards of enterprise virtualization.
