AccessFlow Pioneers Utility Payments for Virtualization
Working with Henry Wine Group, AccessFlow was the first organization to approach a utility about paying clients money to virtualize. This has now become an important program for PG&E, and a PG&E representative appeared on the stage at VMworld along with CEO, Diane Green. PG&E is now working with many AccessFlow clients to pay them lots of money (averaging around $300 per server virtualized), and Sacramento Municipal Utility District (who is working with AccessFlow to virtualize their internal IT) has committed to offering a similar program by late Q4 or early Q1 2007.
While $300 per server pales in comparison to the much larger savings realized by virtualization, it is still a nice bonus to receive up-front to help fund the virtualization project. AccessFlow is co-hosting a couple of seminars this month with VMware on virtualization and power savings that include a speaker from PG&E. The first seminar is in Palo Alto on December 6, while the second is in Walnut Creek on December 12. You can register at www.accessflow.com.
